Drake Thinks Knee Injury Was ‘In The Plan’
“That and the music I started making. I finally made peace with my city. And that was important for me to start this album, because I didn’t feel peace here. I was starting to come home and feel like everybody was staring at me weird. I was starting to feel a little paranoid. A couple things will happen, people will try to check on you. And you just get to the point where it’s like, ‘I don’t feel comfortable at home.’ That’s a bad thing, especially when Toronto inspires so much of the music that I make.“

More Trouble For Beanie Sigel As He Gets Arrested For Marijuana Possesion In New Jersey

WRIGHTSTOWN — A Philadelphia rapper was arrested on a marijuana possession charge early Sunday morning while on his way to a performance at a local tavern, state police said today.
Dwight Grant, 35, who is known as the rapper Beanie Sigel, was found in possession of under 50 grams of the drug during a 12:44 a.m. traffic stop at the intersection of Fort Dix and Main streets, said Sgt. Julian Castellanos, spokesman for the New Jersey State Police.
The driver, Karl S. Dargan, 24, of Philadelphia, and another passenger, Justin S. Gaines, 25, of Westville, Gloucester County, also were charged with marijuana possession of under 50 grams, Castellanos said.
Grant, Dargan and Gaines were not believed to be in jail, Castellanos said.
Grant rose to prominence as a rapper in the late 1990s after making guest appearances on albums put out by The Roots and rapper Jay-Z. His debut album, “The Truth,” was released by Roc-A-Fella Records in 2000. He has had several hit records since.
Grant also has a lengthy criminal history, including stints in prison for weapons possession and parole violations. He was acquitted of an attempted murder charge in 2005 that stemmed from a shooting in West Philadelphia, according to published reports.
On Sunday, Grant was on his way to perform at a private function at Kelly’s Bar on Rexall Avenue, according to a bar employee. The performance was canceled as a result of his arrest, the employee said.

Shyne Po to be released on October 6, 2009

HipHopDX has been doing a great job with their thorough reporting on the nearing end of Shyne’s long bid…..On Monday, HipHopDX posted:
“After serving eight-and-a-half years of a 10 year sentence for his role in the infamous Club New York shooting on December 27, 1999, Shyne finally knows the day he will once again become a free man: October 6, 2009. That release date has already been confirmed by the parole board, but a hearing tomorrow will outline the parameters of ‘Po’s parole, details that could determine whether or not the former Bad Boy Records artist will be able to resume his recording career free of stifling restrictions….”
more details about Shyne after the jump…
HipHopDX also reports:
“What happened was when they sentenced him [in March of 2001 to ten years] they didn’t sentence him to any parole – post release supervision, which was mandatory. So the Correction Department has asked the court to re-sentence him – under the law they can do that,” explained Shyne’s attorney, Oscar Michelen, to HipHopDX. “And so the judge will decide whether to give him the maximum parole, which is five years, or the minimum parole, which is two-and-a-half years.”
Now, according to HipHopDX, the parole decision will determine Shyne’s ability to leave the state which then impacts whether he is able to make a living as an artist (touring, recording, etc)….but, is there still a freeze on Shyne’s bank accounts because of the unresolved civil suits related to the Club New York incident? And did those suits ever get resolved on the Diddy side?
There is one other element to this case which could impact Shyne’s freedom, but I’ll wait on it….he’s served a long time, he’s become an Orthodox Jew (and changed his name to Moses Michael Leviy), and is very devoted to his faith. He still has alot of friends in the business who care about him, and I hope he still wants to make music.
Young Jeezy Talks Thug Motivation 103 (Video)
“To even get a feel for it, we’ll start with the ‘Intro,’ ” he said. “When you buy this album, you’ll know where I’m going. If I can recall, one of the first lines is, ‘No matter what they think, I’m trying to do better/ Despite of what they think, I’m making you better/ So let them go back and forth about who’s better.’
“To me, that’s how I feel,” he continued. “No matter what they think, I go harder to be an example for my homies and everybody around me. I’m trying to make cats better. So if you feel the rapping part is that serious to you, then you go with that. When you go with motivational speaking, you don’t want it to rhyme — you want it to make sense. If he sounds like he’s rhyming, it sounds like a jingle — like he’s trying to sell you a turkey burger or something.”
The Snowman feels that after completing a couple of LPs, he has his craft down pat.
“I got a joint called ‘I Got This,’ ” he said about the new album. “Then there’s ‘Suicide Music.’ I don’t wanna give it all up, because you’ll probably figure out where I’m going. The list goes on. To me, I know [artists] say, ‘This is going to be my best work.’ This is going to be my best work with the experience I have and I’m still me. Cats been rocking with me for four or five years. I’mma give them what they need to do and I’m gonna motivate the thugs.”

Letter From Drake.... [ Must Read ]

This bottle of Opus One is low but my spirits are high my friends. I am about 2 hours away from Toronto, CA where I will be spending the next chunk of time recovering from a surgery that I now must have. I embarked on this tour with a torn ACL, MCL, and LCL and due to the events that happened the other night lord only knows what other damage I have done. On the bright side I will begin the reflecting and soul searching that its going to take to make this album and my outfit on the night I fell was crack. I will forever push myself beyond the limits despite advice and recommendations given because even with this new found success I am still the kid who wanted this more than anything in the world. Its funny when I read comments from previous fans who have lost interest because of the radio play and exposure I have. I just want to assure anyone reading that nothing has changed on my end. I refuse to get comfortable, I refuse to fall in line and follow anyone elses formulas. I still work as if So Far Gone had never dropped and I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to gain entry to this game.
“Missing someone gets easier everyday. Because, even though it is one day further from the last time you saw each other, it is one day closer to the next time you will”
See you soon.

Exclusive: DJ Drama responds to Young Jeezy, “I never charged Jeezy for nothin’…”

DJ DRAMA’s statement:
“After reading Jeezy’s unprovoked insults in that XXL article, it seems like the guy’s pretty emotional if u ask me! Maybe he’s dealing wit some things in his career, I don’t know. He did an interview a few months back with Elliot Wilson on RapRadar. and said the total opposite! He was talkin bout, “Drams the homie and we may work together again, etc.” Now I’ve never spoken on our issues because I believe grown man business is just that, and running to the media to whine is not my thing.
But more importantly, his statement about me trying to charge him $20k for a mixtape is a BOLD FACE LIE. I never charged Jeezy for nothin’. I did two Slick Pulla tapes (4th Ward Day, Election Day) for free and a Bloodraw tape (The Indictment Papers) for free. Anything Jeezy ever needed from me, I did without hesitation. He doesn’t want to deal with the real reason why he’s mad.
The tension between us actually started when I deejayed his USDA release party (FOR FREE) and I played a Gucci Mane record. He stormed out of his own party and didn’t speak to me for about 2-3 months. Me, being a DJ, I was just rockin’ the crowd and giving the people what they had been requesting. I don’t get involved in that other stuff.
I could go deeper into his angry reaction to me working with Gucci but, again, I’m a stand-up guy. I’m loyal to those who are loyal to me. I’m not even thinkin bout Jeezy. Why all the tough talk to the DJ who doesn’t say nothin’ about him? Jeezy didn’t say nothin’ tough when rappers dissed him like Pimp C.
I was shocked by his cowardly attempt to try to slander my name in the upcoming XXL article. And what’s the most shocking is to see him side with the FEDs in my arrest! Wow, since when did that become gangster?!? I’m chillin, never said nothin’ negative about dude. Check his character…or better yet, ask those around him that he’s done dirty. Ask the folks who ain’t with him anymore, like Coach K, Twin, his former security Big Sam, or my homie Roccett…
We doin’ our thing over here. I’m workin on albums, Gangsta Grillz Vol 3., traveling the world and celebrating success! And I’m still the Mixtape President!”
